These direct flow decrees listed above are diverted from the Cache La Poudre River as needed to supply the water users with water. As a year progresses, typically, the snow pack begins to melt slowly and picks up as the air temperature rises then as the quantity of snow in the mountains decreases the flows decrease.
The demand for water by The New Cache La Poudre Irrigating Company stockholders gradually increases at the same time the river flows increase due to increased crop demand. River water will be delivered as long as there is sufficient water in the Cache La Poudre River to keep the necessary decrees in force to meet the water orders of the stockholders. At the point when the river flows drop enough that The New Cache La Poudre Irrigating Company is not receiving enough river water to meet the amount of water ordered then The New Cache La Poudre Irrigating Company will begin to deliver reservoir water. Water from these sources is used to make up the difference between the stockholders orders and the diversion from the river.
